Growing up in Templestowe, Andrew has
always had a great interest in fishing. As a young boy
he would fish with mates for eels in the creeks around
the area. His working life started as an assistant wine
maker with Langwarra Wine’s, then as wine rep with Moorfield Vintner’s in
North Melbourne. After purchasing the Baden Powel Hotel
& Zac’s Cocktail Lounge he was able to purse his love of
fishing once again, making regular visits to Queenscliff
with patron’s from the hotel. He started Crab racing
around the Melbourne Hotel scene with many well known
guest hosts, including Slim Whittle and Miss Dorothy,
this was eventually featured on Tonight Live with Graham
Kennedy in the early 90’s. After getting out of the
hotel game, Andrew started an Entertainment business,
touring international and local acts around Australia.
He is still heavily involved in the entertainment
industry today, touring with people like Chubby Checker,
BB King, Alice Cooper, Jose Feliciano, the late James
Brown, The Drifter’s, John Rowels, Kelly Auty and many
more.

Ben Malouf (Deckie) |
Jan Malouf (Owner) |
Ben has been a mad keen fisherman
ever since he could walk and talk. As a toddler, Ben
tagged along to many a tackle show with his parents, Jan
and Andrew, to help with promoting Gamerec Fishing
Charters. So from an early age he was used to sitting
around watching promotional videos and hearing the
fishing jargon. Not to mention being
glued
to anything that Rex Hunt was doing on the
TV! After
moving to Queenscliff in 1980, his
passion was able to expand greatly. Many a day was spent
at any of the local fishing
spots and as you can see in the photo, a valuable lesson
was learn at a very early age about lure retrieval!
Ben started working for Gamerec as a
part time deckhand from the age of 14. Upon leaving
school he worked full time on Kyena, then for a short
stint with Strapper as a board shaper. With surfing his
other major passion. This last year he has been our main
deck hand on Reelthing our offshore vessel.

Growing up in Rushworth, Jan has
always had an interest in fishing. She would fish for
Yellow Belly & Redfin with her father in the Waranga
Basin. Jan moved to Melbourne to pursue her Nursing
Career as SEN in 1980. In 1987 Jan and Andrew
owned the Baden Powell Hotel and Zac’s Cocktail Lounge
in Collingwood. Jan & Andrew moved to Queenscliff in
1998 after running Gamerec Charters from Bullen as an
agent for many other companies in Queenscliff. Jan and
Andrew started Sunset Cruises in Queenscliff in the
summer of 1999 and purchased Reelthing in 2002, then
Kyena had
run out their home in nearby Point Lonsdale. In
September 2007 they relocated to 1 Beach Street
Queenscliff on Fisherman’s Wharf.

Growing up in Queenscliff, Ben has
been around fishing for a lot of his life. One of
his youngest memories is of catching a Yellow Tail
Kingfish with local legend, Gus Rogers. The photo
shows the fish being longer then a 4 year old
Ben. Working in IT, Web & Graphic Design after
doing VCE at Queenscliff High School, he was employed
with Deakin Uni, and spent 12 months living in Darwin,
before returning to Victoria to work with The DOD. He was also
a part owner in the successful 7th Wave Restaurant in
Ocean Grove. He joined Gamerec in 2007 as Admin,
